The ICFAD triennial international summer symposium is designed to be an informative and educational experience that addresses global issues in the arts. The program takes advantage of the unique cultural aspects of the selected host site as well as involving arts administrators, artists and government leaders of the area. The cultural enrichment that ICFAD’s international members bring to the organization can be highlighted through the venues that are selected for the symposium. In 2008, members traveled to the medieval-walled city of Dubrovnik, where they met with Croatia’s leading arts administrators and creative leaders to learn about the traditions, challenges and values of international festivals and cultural exchanges. Also included in the program, were field trips to Bosnia and surrounding towns of Croatia to experience first-hand the impact of the recent conflict and how the arts helped sustain a culture during difficult times. The next international summer symposium will be offered in 2011.
